If you are going to use a cream that will alter your skin tone – such as Meladerm, then it is really important that you know exactly what ingredients you are applying to your skin.
Most other skin lightening creams on the market make use of ingredients that have an element of risk to them. Ingredients like hydroquinone and mercury are present, and it’s these substances that can cause significant damage to your skin.
Here we detail the ingredients and exactly what Civant skincare have included them for, so that you can rest easy that you are not doing permanent damage to your skin whilst you are using Meladerm.
More in-depth information can be found on the official website, but here we give it to you in a concise and easy to understand format.
The following ingredients have been included to reduce hyperpigmentation:-
Alpha Arbutin is a water soluble ingredient that encourages skin lightening by restricting oxidation of Tyrosine. This enzyme is part of the chain reaction that is triggered by UV light and ends up with the creation of melanins – which are what darkens the skin. Alpha Arbutin also minimizes liver spots and is said to have no side effects.
Tego Cosmo C is an amino acid derivative that also inhibits tyrosinase in the melanin creation process. Therefore it is suitable for use in skin brightening creams.
Gigawhite is a skin lightener that is derived from 7 different plants (including peppermint and mallow) that are grown organically. Studies have shown that it is an extremely effective skin whitener with the additional benefit of reducing both the size and color or age spots. Tests have concluded that it is safe for cosmetic use.
Gigawhite is used as a replacement for Hydroquinone that is present in some other skin lightening products. There are well documented concerns about the use of Hydroquinone, so the fact that Meladerm does not contain this ingredient is comforting.
Kojic Acid is produced as part of the process of fermenting malting rice for Japanese sake rice wine. It is a mild skin lightener that restricts production of melanin that makes the skin brown.
Licorice Extract is included as part of the plant (Glabridin) restricts tyrosine activity in the same way as Alpha Arbutin does making it an effective skin whitener. It also has the benefit of being non-toxic to the cells that it affects.
Niacinamide is actually Vitamin B3 and is present in many foods, including yeast, fish, eggs, green vegetables and beans. It has skin whitening properties that work by restricting the transfer of melanin to the outer layer of the skin, therefore reducing skin color.
Mulberry Root Extract is obtained from the root of the mulberry/fig family. The extract used is a very strong inhibitor of the tyrosinase enzyme and therefore demonstrates powerful skin lightening properties.
BearBerry Extract is commonly referred to as Arbutin. Again it is a tyrosinase inhibitor as many other ingredients are. It is actually a derivative of Hydroquinone but does not break down easily and is considered safe for use.
Glycolic Acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that encourages skin exfoliation. This encourages cell production which helps to even out skin marks and also helps other ingredients to penetrate further into the skin.
Lactic Acid is also an alpha hydroxy acid that is suitable for sensitive skin. It behaves in the same way as Glycolic acid above.
Lemon Juice Extract and other citrus extracts have natural skin bleaching properties. Although they can be harsh on the skin in pure form, when used in moderation are a good addition to a skin whitening product.
Vitamin C in its various forms are antioxidants and some have demonstrated that they have an ability to reduce the production of melanin.
As you can see from the above list of ingredients, they are all targeted at specific areas of skin whitening. The combined effect of these ingredients are what makes Meladerm such a successful product.
Some ingredients may work for an individual better than others, but the combination has been shown to be effective – the large amount of positive reviews are evidence of this.
Civant have stated that it is the attention to detail when manufacturing that makes the skin whitening cream effective. Other lotions on the market may contain the same ingredients but ultimately end up less successful.
The airless dispensing system that Civant use in the bottle is specifically designed to keep air away from the cream. This is done to reduce oxidation which can reduce the effectiveness of the cream.
Ask yourself whether all manufacturer’s go to these lengths to make sure that the money you spend is going on a system that has been well researched and formulated to be this specialized.
